  We had a busy week in Grade 2! Language Arts: We’ve been learning about the homophones their, they’re, and there —a tricky one! We’ll keep practicing next week. Our adventure stories are almost complete. Next steps include writing extended endings, editing, and illustrating. Phonics:  This week we worked on kn, mb, and wr. Next week, we’ll review all diphthongs. Math: We’ve been practicing two-digit subtraction with exchanges, subtraction word problems, and reviewing skip counting forwards and backwards. We also reviewed 2-digit + 2-digit addition. 👉 Subtraction test is on Monday. Practice questions were sent home on Tuesday. Next week, we’ll begin learning about 2D and 3D shapes while continuing to review concepts from the year. Science: We are wrapping up our unit on Earth Systems. What landforms are in Alberta? Where does our water come from? Where does it end up? What are UNESCO Heritage Sites and which ones are in Alberta? Next, we’ll start “What Grows Here?” and ...

Our Week at a Glance:  Hats off for Mental Health Day! We’ve been talking about how to protect our brains by staying in the “green zone,” and how to get back there if we’re feeling worried, sad, or overwhelmed. These strategies are so important for learning and well-being. In math, we’ve completed our measurement unit and  our final assessment on 2-digit + 2-digit addition with regrouping. We’ll continue to practice this skill throughout the year, but we’ll also be moving on to new learning. Extra practice at home is always helpful - Grade 3 builds on those strong Grade 2 foundations! In literacy, we’re exploring verbs, writing strong story beginnings, using transition words, and “showing, not telling.” Students are working hard on "guided" adventure stories - lots of creativity happening! In art, we’ve created beautiful sunset mountain landscapes and fun cat’s eye yarn crafts. In science, we’re learning about Earth systems, including the atmosphere. We loved our “cloud in a ...

May 4                                       STAR WARS DAY - May The 4th Be With You!!! - Dress up Star Wars clothes or like a character.. or don't! It's up to you! Literacy: We focused on showing, not telling by acting out emotions, describing characters through their actions, and using our five senses to describe places (birthday party, beach, camping, forest). Students paired up to share ideas and practiced using strong verbs. Students were introduced to writing that included fun similes and metaphors. Math: Students rotated through 6 stations. Three focused on 2‑digit addition with regrouping using base‑10 blocks, games, and word problems. Three reviewed coin counting, skip counting, and number sense. 📌 Test next Thursday on 2‑digit + 2‑digit addition (e.g., 45 + 76). We alway...
