This week was filled with excitement as we practiced for our Spring Concert , which took place on Thursday night . What a great event it was. The children sang lovely songs, looked so nice, and shared their hard work with confidence. It was wonderful to see so many family members in attendance, including parents, siblings, aunts and uncles, and grandparents. Thank you for coming out to support the children. Before the concert, my children, Sam and Roz , came to spend some time in our classroom and really enjoyed soaking in the pre-concert excitement, meeting the children, and visiting with them. We celebrated Earth Day all week, learning about how we can care for our environment by reducing, reusing, and recycling. One highlight was our paper-making demonstration. I brought in my blender and told the children I had missed breakfast and was going to make a paper smoothie, which led to a few very puzzled looks before the big reveal. Hello Everyone! Hope you are all doing well. Thank you for reading our classroom update.  In Language Arts, we completed our work with the folktale Rumplestiltskin through the Junior Great Books program. Students participated in Shared Inquiry discussions, where they answered interpretive questions, supported their ideas with evidence from the text, and practised respectful listening. We also focused on oral reading with expression, drama activities, and representing characters and events in different ways. These lessons supported Grade 2 expectations for oral language, critical thinking, expression, and comprehension. In Math, last week we reviewed addition and subtraction basic facts, subtraction strategies such as counting up and using inverse operations, and the adding to 9 trick. We also revisited number sense, place value limits, and how to determine if regrouping is needed. Students practised with base ten blocks and played Race to 100.
