April 24th

This week was filled with excitement as we practiced for our Spring Concert, which took place on Thursday night. What a great event it was. The children sang lovely songs, looked so nice, and shared their hard work with confidence. It was wonderful to see so many family members in attendance, including parents, siblings, aunts and uncles, and grandparents. Thank you for coming out to support the children.

Before the concert, my children, Sam and Roz, came to spend some time in our classroom and really enjoyed soaking in the pre-concert excitement, meeting the children, and visiting with them.

We celebrated Earth Day all week, learning about how we can care for our environment by reducing, reusing, and recycling. One highlight was our paper-making demonstration. I brought in my blender and told the children I had missed breakfast and was going to make a paper smoothie, which led to a few very puzzled looks before the big reveal. We also created Earth Day art together. Our planned Earth Day walk was postponed due to inclement weather and concert rehearsals, but we hope to reschedule it within the next couple of weeks. I will be sure to give you a heads-up the night before we go.

In Literacy, we worked on adjectives and created a shape poem about robins, practicing how to use descriptive language with commas. We also learned more about robins and their characteristics. In Math, we are moving toward more abstract thinking by practicing two-digit addition with regrouping, using fewer base-ten blocks and doing more work on paper.

Our chicks are growing quickly and are nearly ready to hatch, possibly on Sunday or Monday. When we candle the eggs, we can see beaks and even some movement. At this point, eight out of twelve eggs appear likely to hatch, and the children are eagerly watching each day.

A quick lost and found reminder: our coat hooks are very close together, and sometimes hats, mittens, and gloves accidentally end up in the wrong backpack. If any extra items show up at your home, please return them to school. We are currently missing a grey toque with “SNOW” written on it and a pair of blue HOT PAWS gloves. Both items are new. When in doubt, please check for name labelling inside.

Goodbye to Miss Parker

We are very sad to say goodbye to Miss Parker. On her last day, she read a wonderful story to the children called The Magical Yet, encouraging them to use positive self-talk and to remember not to give up when learning something new or challenging. We also enjoyed spending time together weaving, crafting, and organizing yarn. Miss Parker has promised to pop in to check on the chicks, which makes us very happy.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. It has been a full and memorable week in our classroom.
