First Week!
Welcome to Grade 2!
What an amazing first week! In just 3.5 days, we’ve already seen so much growth. This month, our big focus is on building strong expectations for behaviour and learning how to live well together as a community. Our classroom motto is: Work Hard and Be Kind.
We have 27 children in our class. It’s a dynamic and exciting place!
A few reminders:
The importance of bedtime and routine can’t be overstated. A well-rested child is a successful learner!
Please remember a water bottle and a healthy lunch each day.
This week in Grade 2:
Getting to know you activities.
Setting expectations for both behaviour and academics.
Beginning assessments in reading, writing and math (these will continue for the next few of weeks).
Exploring patterns (including an outdoor investigation and learning how to weave with yarn).
Working on calendar sense (tracking upcoming events and creating personal calendars).
Reviewing number sense (skip counting, counting to 100), as well as handwriting with a focus on proper letter formation.
Writing focus: We are practicing using lowercase letters in all writing, with capital letters only where they belong (at the start of sentences and in proper names). No capitals in the middle of words or names.
Upcoming Events:
📅 Parent Open House Thursday, 4:30–6:30 pm. I would love to see you there!
