What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in Grade 2!

Can you believe the leprechauns remembered they were almost trapped last year? Those mischievous little sprites certainly made quite the mess of our classroom!

Along with our St. Patrick’s Day shenanigans, we were honoured to welcome Indigenous Elder Mr. Hal Eagle Tail, who shared stories about the spring equinox and sang traditional songs with us. We also learned about the prairie crocus as one of the first signs of spring.

Please take a moment to have your child tell you more about their week. They can use the photos below to help guide their recall and share their favourite moments.

Wishing all of our families a fantastic March Break! We look forward to seeing everyone back at school on March 30, 2026 (see details about the pancake breakfast below!).










Here are a few important updates:

Welcome Back Pancake Breakfast

On Monday, March 30, McKenzie Towne School will be hosting a pancake breakfast for all students!


The school has engaged a professional catering food service company who will set up service and cooking on site in the school gym. Students will assemble in the gym at two different seating times in the morning and enjoy a sit-down breakfast prepared for them that includes two pancakes and a fruit salad. Thank you to the volunteers who have offered to help with the morning. It should be a great community event to kick-off the final spring term.


Children should have their normal breakfast before coming to school as the pancake breakfast will occur a little later in the morning. 


Students and staff are invited to dress western since that’s what we do when we eat pancakes in Calgary!!


Spring Concert

McKenzie Towne School is excited to present "Singing Through the Seasons," our Spring Concert for the Grade 2 and 3 classes on Thursday April 23rd. 

The dress rehearsal is open to families to come watch. Please note, there may be pauses during this performance to fine tune some details. 

Dress Rehearsal:

Grade 2: 11:00 

Grade 3: 1:30 

Evening Performance:

Grade 2: 5:00 (doors open at 4:30) 

Grade 3: 6:30 (doors open at 6:00)

Happy Friday, Grade 2 Families! It was so wonderful to connect with many of you at the open house. The beginning of the school year always brings lots of questions and excitement, and I truly value our conversations. Please remember, you are always welcome to reach out to me by email or in person. First Week!

  Welcome to Grade 2! What an amazing first week! In just 3.5 days, we’ve already seen so much growth. This month, our big focus is on building strong expectations for behaviour and learning how to live well together as a community. Our classroom motto is:  Work Hard and Be Kind. We have 27 children in our class. It’s a dynamic and exciting place! A few reminders: The importance of  bedtime and routine  can’t be overstated. A well-rested child is a successful learner! Please remember a  water bottle  and a  healthy lunch  each day. This week in Grade 2: Getting to know you  activities. Setting expectations for both behaviour and academics.
