Happy Halloween!
In writing, we had fun drawing haunted houses and then writing about them using exclamatory, statement, and question sentences. We’re also becoming more confident editors—using our editing checklists to make sure every sentence starts with an uppercase letter, the pronoun “I” is capitalized, and we remember capitalization rules for days of the week and holidays. We’re also checking for ending punctuation, finger spaces, and making sure our small, tall, and hanging letters sit properly on the line.
In math, we’ve been counting quantities and writing numbers in both standard form (digits) and written form (words). We’re using place value charts to represent numbers up to one thousand. Students are learning how each digit has a special place - thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones - and how to use a zero when a category has no groups. We also practiced graphing Halloween candy and answering questions based on our graphs.
In phonics, we reviewed the silent “e” rule with the letter “a.”
We enjoyed seeing so many fantastic costumes this week - everyone looked amazing! Some children even decided to save their big reveal for tonight, which made the anticipation extra fun. We also played a game called Pumpkin Head, which encouraged teamwork, cooperation, and helping one another - a perfect way to celebrate the season together! We wrapped up the week with our buddies, making adorable 3D paper cats and coloring Día de los Muertos masks (Mexican sugar skulls). It was a fun, creative way to end our short week together!
