This Week in Our Class We had a busy and meaningful week together! On Monday , we gathered in the library for our community circle . We learned about Indigenous protocols for circle meetings, including passing a talking stick to take turns, and being mindful not to point our feet toward the centre. We created a web with yarn to show how we are all connected. The children noticed that if one person pulls their yarn, we all feel it - just like in our classroom community, what each of us does (or doesn’t do) affects everyone. Throughout the week, we learned about the importance of Orange Shirt Day . We read several books, including With Our Orange Hearts , The Sharing Circle , When We Were Alone , and Phyllis’s Orange Shirt , and discussed their messages. We responded to the following question on paper feathers: What can we do to make sure every child feels safe and cared for? Here are a few of their ideas: Say your friend is lucky or unique. Introduce yourself. Stick up for your fr...

Happy Friday, Grade 2 Families! It was so wonderful to connect with many of you at the open house. The beginning of the school year always brings lots of questions and excitement, and I truly value our conversations. Please remember, you are always welcome to reach out to me by email or in person. Together, we make up the village that supports your children, and I am so grateful to share that role with you. This week, we had a few special highlights: 🌟 The Terry Fox Run Our class did an incredible job participating in the Terry Fox Run! The students gave their best effort, showed determination, and pushed themselves to beat their personal goals. What a wonderful way to celebrate resilience and community spirit. 🌟 Grade 3 Buddy Time On Friday, we teamed up with Mrs. Kruger’s Grade 3 students. The older buddies were eager to step into leadership roles while the Grade 2s brought their creativity and energy. Working in pairs, they created beautiful seasonal art using only natural m...

This month, our big focus is on building strong expectations for behaviour and learning how to live well together as a community. Our classroom motto is:  Work Hard and Be Kind. We have 27 children in our class. It’s a dynamic and exciting place! A few reminders: The importance of  bedtime and routine  can’t be overstated. A well-rested child is a successful learner! Please remember a  water bottle  and a  healthy lunch  each day. This week in Grade 2: Getting to know you  activities. Setting expectations for both behaviour and academics.
